Finance Minister assures help to rejuvenate State economy

Traders, hoteliers join pre-Budget consultations
Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather has said that it would be the endeavour of the government to mitigate the problems of common masses, adding that everything possible would be done to boost the economy of the State. 
Addressing the representatives of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation and Kashmir Hoteliers Association, invited here today in connection with pre-Budget deliberations, Mr. Rather said genuine demands of all the stakeholders would be taken into consideration before finalizing the preparations of the ensuing Budget Session. He assured these associations that everything possible would be done to address the bottlenecks coming in the way of their smooth functioning. He said trade organizations have to play a crucial role and extend cooperation to the government, so that the State is taken out from the clutches of underdevelopment.
Mr. Rather also assured that viable and genuine demands would be given due consideration before finalizing the Budget.
Earlier, President, Kashmir Traders Association (KTA), Mr. Jan Mohammad Koul, put forth various proposals needed to rejuvenate the business sector in the region. He pinpointed various ‘impediments’ confronting the trade associations and sought easing of restrictions on the movement of goods from Lakhanpur to Lower Munda. The issue of negative impact on the economy caused due to recurring strikes was also raised and the KTA sought proper compensation for the losses incurred. The trade bodies also favoured formulation of new trade policy for the State besides, advocating opening of the Mughal Road.
President, Kashmir Hoteliers Associations, while forwarding his viewpoints, said that there is a need of promoting tourism industry as the hoteliers are wholly dependent on it. They also demanded facilities like adequate power supply so that tourists are able to put up in hotels during winters as well.
The representatives unanimously sought the assistance of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah for projecting the cause of tourism sector both nationally and internationally so that more tourists are motivated to tour the world-famous tourist resorts of the State.
They also pleaded for declaring Kashmir Valley as tax-free tourist destination and asked for allocating sufficient funds to the tourism sector so that required infrastructure is developed for housing the tourists.
