“Perks soon for docs, paramedics working late hours, serving in rural areas”

Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has said that all those doctors and paramedics who attend to their duties after normal working hours will be given suitable incentive. He said similar incentives will be given to doctors who serve in rural areas of the State.  
The Minister said this during his inspection of Sub-District Hospital, Pampore today. Director, Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed accompanied the Minister.
Mr. Sharma said the government is aware of the difficulties being faced by the doctors in far-flung areas and every effort will be made to compensate them suitably so that rural health-care is further improved. He also underlined the need for curbing referral system and said every district hospital and sub-district hospitals should ensure emergency services after duty hours and attend to all such cases which can be treated at their level. 
While lauding the functioning of the sub-district hospital at Pampore, he urged the doctors to work with more dedication and provide better medi-care facilities to the patients. He asked the doctors to motivate the patients for getting specialized treatment, including conduct of caesareans, appendectomy, deliveries and other normal surgeries, at the hospital and not to opt for Government Medical College, Srinagar, as all such facilities are available there.
Mr. Sharma said the government is committed to provide better working environment for the doctors in the rural health institutions to ensure their stay during night hours. 
The Minister said the people have high hopes from the present coalition government, especially in the healthcare sector, and all-out efforts will be made to upgrade existing infrastructure at health institutions. He said more posts of specialists and paramedics are being created to overcome shortage of manpower in rural areas, adding a mechanism has been put in place to ensure timely-conduct of DPCs to facilitate promotions in various categories and other welfare measures for the doctors and other employees of the Health Department.
 During his meeting with the doctors, the Minister was informed that the Pampore hospital last year treated 46,130 OPD patients, 3,895 indoor patients, besides conducted 2,375 x-rays, 1,825 USGs, 16,000 lab tests, 175 eye operations and 181 deliveries. As many as 13,000 dental patients were also treated at the hospital.
The Minister went around all the wards and interacted with the patients and their attendants and inquired about the treatment being provided to them.
Later, Mr. Sharma also inspected the ongoing work of under-construction building of the hospital and issued instructions to the concerned agency to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe.
