Ensure availability of ration at all depots within first fortnight: Slathia
In order to meet out the shortage of ration in far-flung areas of Kishtwar district, the government has decided to dispatch 6,000 quintals of ration including rice and wheat to the areas. In the first instance, the quota of ration would be for two months for the rationees of inaccessible eleven centers of Dachin, Warwan and Marwah areas.
This decision was taken in a meeting of officers held here last evening under the Chairmanship of Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia.
It was decided that the ration would be picked up in small load carriers from Khanabal and off-loaded at the last ration centers in the area so that the charges of repeated carriage are avoided. To monitor the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the area, the meeting decided that the department would constitute a committee headed by concerned Naib-Tehsildar with tehsil supply officers, Jammu and Srinagar members.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Slathia directed the functionaries to ensure availability of ration at all ration centers and sale outlets within first fortnight of every month, adding, that priority must be given to the rationees living in far–flung and inaccessible areas.
The Minister also spell out the measures being taken to streamline the PDS in the State. He stressed for activating the monitoring system so that frequent inspections of sale depots are conducted to check the pilferage. “Misgivings against the department can be removed only through honest and direct approach of the field staff. It is mandatory upon all of us to address public grievances on priority and rendering satisfactory service to the people,” he added.
MLA, Kishtwar, Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Secretary, CA &PD, Mr. K. B. Jandial, District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, Mr. G. R. Bhagat, District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Director, CA & PD, Jammu, Mr. Hemant Kumar Sharma, Director, CA &PD, Kashmir, Mr. Mehraj-ud-Din Kenoo and senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
