The prestigious “State Photography Awards -2009 ” has been announced by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here this afternoon . The Awards were declared in favour 8 prominent photographers belongs to Jammu , Kashmir and Ladakh after approval of President of State Academy and Chief Minister Sh Omar Abdullah.
Giving details Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Academy stated that the first Award goes in favour of Mr. Mir Majeed Mumtaz for his photograph entitled “Subastance of Life” while Sh Naushad Gayoor bagged the second State award in this state level copitition for his Photo entitled “Tranquil Land”.
Zaffar further told that Mr Mohammad Safeen’s “untitled” photograph adjudged best third in this competition.
Chief Minister also approved Five Special State Consolation Awards in favour of Dr. N S Jamwal, Mr Sanjay Gupta, Ms Sonam Spalizin, Mr Azam Hussan and Shiekh Yaseer Arfat, said Zaffar.
Zaffar further told that Academy had received 72 entries at various offices of Academy and after initial scrutiny 40 works had been chosen for further course of judgment by a high level jury approved by the Chief Minister. The jury unanimously selected eight photographs for Awards under different categories , Zaffar said.
Zaffar on behalf of Chief Minister extended warmth gratitude to the Award winning photographers and hope that they will also highlight the beauty of the Jammu and Kashmir in their further works to popularized the state as a seat of artistic excellence besides promoting tourism through this medium. The Award ceremony will be held shortly in Srinagar, Zaffar said.
