Buoyed by the success of several live programmes and events organized and telecast by the Kendra, the public broadcaster Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar has decided to telecast the 17 th annual convocation of the University of Kashmir live on DD Kashir on Saturday.
The live coverage of the convocation which is being held after a gap of six years will be flashed across the globe on the satellite channel enabling tens of thousands of viewers to witness the proceedings live on their television sets at home.
While confirming the live telecast of the convocation, Deputy Director Programmes DDK Srinagar Shabir Mujahid said “Since it is for the first time that convocation is being held inside the University Campus at Convocation complex it will be a memorable event and to make it unforgettable we will telecast the event live which would enable thousands of viewers including the family members of the students to see their wards getting conferred with Ph.D, M.Phil, Gold medal and degree certificates thereby becoming a part of the event while sitting at their homes.”
Mujahid added that some films produced by EMMRC would also be shown during the live telecast of the convocation, “We will also put films produced by EMMRC during the live telecast of the convocation at proper intervals probably in the beginning which would make the annual convocation more educative and would benefit the audience at the convocation complex as well as the viewers at home.”
According to reports Vice President of India Hamid Ansari will be the chief guest at the 17th annual convocation ceremony of the Kashmir University. He will deliver the convocation address, reports said, adding Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra shall preside over the convocation while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will be the guest of honour
They said all the students who have been declared qualified for the award of Ph.D M. Phil, MD and MS and diplomas in anestheology, ophthalmology and gynecology since the last convocation held on 19th April 2003 will be admitted to the convocation for the conferment of degrees.
According to reports Governor NN Vohra who is also the Chancellor of KU, Chief Minister who is the Pro-Chancellor KU, all the deans of faculties of the university and affiliated collages, heads of the departments of PG centers in University and colleges will be present at the convocation besides other top dignitaries.
