A number of Departments/Centers in the University are involved in the organization of the Workshop, Dr. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Organizing Secretary of the workshop said. “The objective of the Workshop is to discuss and develop an overarching framework for generating and making available geospatial data for use by different users at various levels for good governance and for promoting sustained economic development of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, he said. It is expected that the Workshop shall provide a platform to all the stakeholders in the state and beyond to interact and demonstrate the use of geospatial information for planning and decision making for good governance at different political and administrative levels. The success achieved at the use of spatial Planning for G-Governance at the national and international level need to be emulated for promotion of good governance at all levels in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and push forward the development process in the state, he said. However, it requires generation of geospatial data in various sectors and appropriate analytical tools need to be adopted to develop Decision Support Systems (DSS) for good governance in these sectors. To ensure that E-Governance translates into G-Governance at the grass root level, it is imperative to take necessary steps for the development of Spatial Data Infrastructure in various sectors in the state.

The target audience for this Workshop includes academicians, Engineers, Resource Managers (water, forests, agriculture, land etc), Policy and Decision Makers and all concerned sections of the Society. Particularly, the state organizations that use spatial data for planning are strongly recommended to depute the participants to attend the Workshop to get a feel and demonstration of the use of latest technologies for informed planning and decision making in their organizations.
