Omar’s marathon ‘Awami Mulaqat’ attracts thousands at Ganderbal

 Omar’s Awami Mulaqat (Open Public Interaction) has attained popularity and hundreds of deputations and individuals from all walks of life had close chance to interact face-to-face with the Chief Minister today at Ganderbal. Democracy was in action when on-the-spot decisions were taken by the Chief Minister while disposing off hundreds of individual applications and memoranda. Whenever genuine demands were presented to the Chief Minister, he issued orders for quick action by the concerned officers present on the occasion.

Keeping in view the success of Awami Mulaqat  and active participation of individuals and deputations, Mr. Abdullah has decided to continue with such Mulaqats in future for which he will be taking government to the doorsteps of the people in each district of J&K. In a marathon Awami Mulaqat’ that lasted from morning till evening at Ganderbal today, the Chief Minister patiently heard hundreds of individuals and scores of deputations travelling from across Ganderbal district. This was the second Awami Mulaqat held by him this week to have firsthand appraisal of public grievances and community demands for on-the-spot redressal and decision-making. The first such Mulaqat was held at Bandipora on Tuesday.

Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Davendar Singh Rana, MLA, Amria Kadal, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur, Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, Financial Commissioner, Planning, Mr. S. L. Bhat, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Principal Secretary, PHE, Mr. A. K. Angurana, Commissioner/Secretary, R&B, Mr. Mehboob Iqbal, Secretary, Education, Mr. G. A. Peer, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Heads of various Departments, Chief Engineers of all engineering disciplines and district officers were present on the occasion.

Presence of over 5,000 people at the venue of Mulaqat to meet the Chief Minister indicated people’s faith in such directions of the Chief Minister to get their grievances addressed speedily.

Responding to various demands brought in the notice of Chief Minister by deputations from Shalabug, Sher-i-Pathri, Laar, Thero, Baribal, Kheer Bhawani, Tulmulla, Narayanbagh, Manigam, Manihama, Vokura, Gutlibagh, Dub-Shalahaar, Repora, Safapora, Borus, Zazan, Doderhama, Denhoma, Noner, Ratherpora, Seikhpora, Gund-Rehman, Teingpora, Gadoora, Waliwar and various other areas, the Chief Minister gave on-the-spot approval for Ganderbal General Bus Stand, street lighting, playfields, footbridges, healthcare centres, fire station, water supply schemes, transformers, dispensaries, de-watering pumps, seed storage, up-gradation of schools, police battalion headquarters and dozens of other development works of smaller magnitude. He also gave on-spot orders on various individual cases including SRO 43.

The Chief Minister constituted an enquiry, headed by Deputy Commissioner to look into the complaint brought to his notice by a deputation from Manigam regarding granting of illegal connections from a drinking water supply scheme for irrigation purposes. The Chief Minister also decided on-spot that ARTOs wilxl be posted in each district. For that matter, he issued instructions to Chief Secretary and Transport Commissioner for creation of post of ARTO at Ganderbal. He also issued instructions for constitution of a Committee, headed by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir for rationalization of routes, as most of the delegations complained that they were facing problems on this count. On this occasion, district officers informed the Chief Minister that during the last six months, various projects in agriculture, horticulture, PDD, PHE, R&B, et al, were introduced in Ganderbal involving crores or rupees, out of which some works have been accomplished while the remaining are in the process of completion. He was briefed that several filtration plants at Manigam, Barsoo, Lar and Dagpen have been completed during the last financial year.           

Mr. Abdullah said he will continue to hold public Mulaqat sessions at all districts to get regular public feedback and personally assess the requirements of development demands of the people.

The Chief Minister said administration has already been sensitized for building constant rapport with the public by visiting all areas and taking stock of the public demands and their grievances for redressal.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated two model villages at Haran and Laar, each developed at a cost of Rs. 1.20 crore. Mr. Sagar was accompanying the Chief Minister on the occasion.

Speaking to people, the Chief Minister reiterated his government’s determination to revolutionize rural development scenario by providing upgraded basic amenities and kick-starting schemes aimed at comprehensive development of villages and generation of economic activities
