Sagar reviews progress of Jammu, Kathua, Samba dists

22,210 families benefitted under NREGA in 3 districts
As many as 1,649 works have been undertaken under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) by issuing 52,533 job cards and providing employment to 22,210 households in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts.
This was stated in the annual performance review meeting of Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, chaired by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar. 
The meeting was attended by Minister for Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment and CAPD, Mr. S. S. Slathia, Legislators of the districts, Secretary, Rural Development, Mr. M. S. Khan and Director, Rural Development, Jammu, besides other senior officers of the department. 
The meeting was the last in the series called by Minister to review district-wise working of the Rural Development Department so that various schemes are implemented properly in a transparent manner.
Mr. Sagar said it is the endeavour of the government to work for uplift of the people and in this regard various welfare schemes have been launched to improve living standard of the people and mitigate their suffering. “It is the priority of the government to take measures so that our State becomes a model state of the country”, he said.
The Minister also directed the officers to complete the schemes in a time-bound manner so that the real objective is achieved. He asked teh concerned authorities to ensure that schemes are completed within stipulated timeframes.
It was given out in the meeting that an amount of Rs. 3.67 crore has been spent in Jammu district under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) by undertaking work on 1,703 houses. Nine model villages are also nearing completion with an expenditure of Rs. 10.12 crore. 
Similarly, it was stated that four roads under Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), with an estimated cost of Rs. 6.23 crore are also underway. An amount of Rs. 1.41 crore has also been spent on 110 works under Community Development and Panchayats during 2008-2009.
The meeting was also informed that in Kathua district Rs.1.89 crore has been spent under IAY by completing 641 houses. Four model villages within an estimated cost of Rs. 4.80 crore are also nearing completion. 
Likewise, an amount of Rs. 20.66 lac has been spent under Community Development and Panchayats by undertaking 46 works during 2008-2009. Under 12th Financial Commission, Rs. 2.91 crore have been spent by completing 1,061 works while as Rs.68.84 lakh have been spent under Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC).
In Samba district, six model villages with an estimated cost of Rs. 4.8 crore are also on verge of completion. Under IAY, an amount of Rs. 65.18 lakh have been spent. Similarly, under 12th Financial Commission, Rs. 1.78 crore have been spent by undertaking 439 works. An amount of Rs. 95.55 lakh have been spent under Community Development and Panchayats by taking up 61 works while as under TSC, Rs. 44.95 lacs have been expended.
Secretary, Rural Development, gave an overview about various RDD schemes and their present status.
