Directs for ready availability of ration at all depots
Of the total allocation of 2,33,500 quintals of rice required for the current month as much as one lakh quintals of rice has been dispatched to different destinations in Kashmir division while over 500 trucks loaded with different essentials are waiting to offload the ration in various districts of the division.
This was stated at a meeting of officers of Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) held here today with Minister for Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia in chair. The meeting was convened to review the stock and supply position of essential commodities of Kashmir division.
Mr. Slathia instructed the officers of Food Corporation of India (FCI) to be available round the clock at their respective godowns so that the ration could be lifted during exigencies readily. He also directed the Transport Department to make available sufficient load carriers/ trucks for lifting ration from the FCI godowns and supply thereon.
The Minister asked the field functionaries of CAPD to ensure adequate availability of ration at every ration depot in the Valley. He asked the district officers to personally visit the depots under their jurisdiction and ensure that people don’t face any problem on this account, adding random checking must be carried out in rural areas to streamline distribution process.
The Minister made it clear that no lapse will be tolerated in supply and distribution of the ration given its prime necessity and every officer shall be personally held responsible for even minor mistake. He impressed upon the officers to rise to the occasion and improve delivery mechanism by putting in extra efforts.
Among others, Director CAPD Kashmir division, Mehraj Kinoo, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of the department attended the meeting.
