Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah has directed constitution of Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) to oversee the transport operation in the state and advise on placing checking and balances to make the system efficient and smooth- running. The Chief Minister was presiding over a joint meeting of officers of state Transport Department and the representatives of Transport Companies Association led by its Chairman Legislator, Mr. T. S. Wazir.
Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr. Devender Singh Rana, Commissioner Secretary, Finance, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandy, Transport Commissioner, Mr. A. K. Mohantay, Commissioner Secretary, Transport, Mr. Abdul Hamid, Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Ms Naseema Lankar and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The Transport Companies representative presented a memorandum of demands relating to the functioning of RTO offices, issuance of service license, overloading, Transport Nagar at Narwal, Lakhanpur entry post, National Permit Scheme, Camp offices of Transport Commissioner at Srinagar and Jammu, Traffic Checking, economic package, Tax on Bus body fabrication, entry tax on passenger buses, etc.
The meeting discussed the demands point wise and deliberated upon the issues pertaining to streamlining the transport sector. Mr. Abdullah called for rationalization of routes and eradicating the menace of overloading. He also directed for managing the plying of the transport in a scientific manner, where public convenience will have top priority.
