A deputation of J&K Polythene Manufacturers and Traders Association led by Minister for Revenue and Relief, Mr. Raman Bhalla today called on Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah and presented him a memorandum for redressal of grievances.
The deputation assured fullest cooperation to the government in its efforts to control pollution and preserve environment by checking use of polythene in the State. They, however, requested for banning the import of polythene which is 80 percent as per their assessment, in the first phase and the 20 percent manufactured in the State in the second phase so that local manufacturers could get a breathing time to switch over to other business.
They also appealed for special package to the manufacturers of polythene to help them to take to other businesses as soon as possible.
The Chief Minister heard the deputation patiently. He said that while the decision to stop the use of polythene in the State will remain in force, he will ask the Minister for Industries to get the memorandum presented by the Polythene Manufacturer’s Association examined by a Committee who will also suggest ways and means for rehabilitation of the manufacturers and traders in this trade.
