I-Day arrangements

Arrangements regarding upcoming Independence Day celebrations in the valley particularly at Srinagar were discussed at a high level meeting of officers here today with Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Masaud Samoon in chair.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar. Mr. Mehraj Ahamd Kakroo, Director General, Fire and Emergency Services, Mr. G.M. Bhat, Director School Education, Kashmir, Chief Engineer PHE besides senior officers of Police, Information , Health, SRTC, SMC and security forces.

It was decided in the meeting that the main function in the valley would be held at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar where the day long celebrations would commence with Shahnayee Wadan. Soon after this, the Chief Guest would unfurl the tri-color and take salute at the March Past. Contingents of JKP, JKAP, Lady JK Police, CRPF, BSF, IRP, ITBP, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Protection Force, NCC and School children will participate in the March past.

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation was directed to ensure sanitation of Bakshi Stadium and its surroundings while PHE and Power Development departments were asked to make adequate arrangements of water and power supply on the Independence day at the venue of function.

The SRTC will arrange 10 buses for ferrying the students to the stadium and back besides transport arrangements would also be made for taking the people to the stadium. The Health department would keep medicare facilities alongwith doctors and paramedics available at the venue. The Fire and Emergency Services department would keep fire fighting equipments in a state of readiness.

Divisional Commissioner also constituted a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to review the presentation of cultural programmes and other arrangements related to Independence Day celebrations.

The artists of Information and Education departments, Youth Services and Sports and J&K Cultural Academy would present a variety cultural programme on the occasion. Main government installations would be illuminated in the evening.

Full dress rehearsal would be held on August 13, 2009. Addressing the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner stressed for maintaining greater synergy among various departments for successful conclusion of the function.
