JKCL booked sale of 30047 MTs in first quarter

Jammu & Kashmir Cements Limited (JKCL) has produced 23,111 MTs of clinkers from existing plant and 6,427 MTs from the new plant, besides, it has produced 31,166 MTs of cements and booked the sale of 30047 MTs of cement during the first three months of current fiscal.

This was revealed in the 91st Board of Directors meeting of Jammu & Kashmir Cements Limited held here today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Industries & Commerce, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia.

To do away with the gap between demand and supply of coal, the Board constituted a four members Sub- committee comprising one member each from Industries & Commerce, Planning and Finance department, besides, one member from JKCL. The Committee will analyse the cost of coal, besides, working out the feasibility of purchase of coal from open market and submit its report within three days before the chairman.

The Managing Director, Sardar S. S. Anand informed the meeting that in view of un-certainty witnessed in power supply and frequent shortage of coal, the company in contemplating to install Pet-Coke usage system in the plant adding that the matter in this regard has been taken up with a private player.

The meeting was informed that JK Cements is a fully State Government-owned company, with a capacity of 600 tonnes per day (TPD) was set up at Khrew in 1981 with an investment of Rs. 38 crore out of which the state government contributed about Rs. 15 crore as paid up capital and the rest of the amount was raised as term loan from various financial institutions. The company started its commercial production in April, 1982 and liquidated all its old debts and has shown considerable progress during the last seven years.

Further under the expansion programme, J&K Cements is installing another plant of 600 TPD at a cost of Rs. 8,750 lakh and the new additional line has been established at the existing location and is ready for commissioning, the meeting was told.

Mr. Anand said a grinding plant of 300 TPD-capacity is being set up at Samba, in Jammu, at an estimated cost of Rs. 15 crore. He said J&K Cements is aware about its social responsibilities and the company is providing Rs. 10 lakh to 10-bed hospital at Khrew and construction of school buildings for Government Girls and Boys schools in the same village is also under progress. Besides, more than two lakh trees in and around the cement plant have also been planted and afforestation has been made a regular programme in the company, he said.

Among others, Principal Secretary, Power Development Department, Mr. B. R. Sharma, Chairman, Pollution Control Board, Mr. Vinod Ranjan, Director Planning, Mr. S. A. Qureshi, Director, Geology and Minning, Mr. Shabir Ahmed besides, representatives from line department attended the meeting.
