Mammoth rally against polythene on the streets of Sopore

People demands the town to be polythene free like Srinagar city

Government has already banned use of polythene carry bags in the J&K State as it has been declared harmful against human body as well as against environment.

Within the limits of Srinagar city, Srinagar Municipal Committee has already succeeded in enforcing the ban. The Corporation authorities seized vehicle, carrying polythene, polythene bundles in thousands of tones from polythene wholesalers from different parts of Srinagar city and with the association of Pollution Control Board, ensures that the carry bags are not used anywhere.

The SMC’s initiative received all round applause, even eco-friendly volunteers from all parts of India, whose number was in thousands came to Srinagar to learn how anti-polythene enforcement was made in the city. It was determination of entire population of Srinagar that the City is heading towards zero polythene zone.

Accordingly, today thousands of students, intellectuals and other respectable citizens of Sopore town in association with District Information Centre, Baramulla and Government Degree College Sopore drew out a rally which passed through main chowk Sopore and other parts of town, demanding complete ban on polythene in Sopore.

They have pointed out that increasing human ailment and different types of health problems are because of use of polythene. They even pointed out that polythene is the cause of various diseases in fruits.

Earlier, a seminar on hazards of polythene and drug addiction’ was held in the college auditorium in which students presented papers on the topic.

District Development Commissioner, Baramulla Mr. Lateef-u-Zaman, on the occasion, emphasized upon people to extend their cooperation in eradicating the menace of drug addiction and usage of polythene.

The position holders were awarded by the District Information Centre. The first three position holders were Sadaf Rashid, Nelofar Zargar and Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Qureshi.
