Shelter to homeless, effective slum dev Govt’s top priority: Dy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand has stated that providing shelter to the houseless and implementation of an effective slum development programme in the State are the priority sectors for the government.

Stating that the Ministry of Housing & Urban Development (H&UD), with active support of the Central government, is working for all-round urban development of the State, Mr. Tara Chand said the government is also committed to provide basic urban facilities to urbanites as well as ruralites of the State.

The Deputy Chief Minister said this while interacting with hundreds of people and delegations who had called on him at his residence today. A large number of deputations from all parts of the State had called on him and brought into his notice different issues for his consideration.

A deputation from Zadibal, led by Mr. Mushtaq A. Tantray, put forth the problems being faced by local inhabitants. The deputation highlighted issues of shelter for houseless, need to revive local industry, efficient sewerage disposal and poor condition of lanes and drains of the area.

Reacting to the issues put forth by the deputation, Mr. Tara Chand gave on-the-spot instructions to Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Pollution Control Board for immediately addressing the sewerage problems of the area, so that inhabitants are saved from health hazards. He further instructed Commissioner, SMC to get the lanes and drain work started on priority.

The Deputy Chief Minister laid emphasis on the need to revitalize employment-generating local industry of Kashmir so that more people get absorbed into gainful employment. He also called on people to reap maximum benefit from various government schemes for promoting local industry.

Another deputation from Tangmarg, led by Mr. Ghulam Reshi, in their interaction with Deputy Chief Minister, brought into his notice matters pertaining to the development of its area.

A deputation from Ramban also apprised Deputy Chief Minister about various matters of concern.

The Deputy Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the deputations and assured them speedy redressal of genuine grievances.
