With opening of Radio Frequency Ablation unit, Sher-e-Kashmir Medical Institute creates new history

CM’s orders implemented within a month; unit will cater to heart patients

On the instructions of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Body of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), latest equipment of Radio Frequency Ablation has been put in place at SKIMS to provide most-needed healthcare facilities to heart patients of a particular type Giving details, Director, SKIMS, Prof. Abdul Hamid Zargar today said the Chief Minister, while chairing recently-held SKIMS Governing Body meeting, had issued instructions for upgrading medical facilities at SKIMS and installation of new equipment of Radio Frequency Ablation is a step in that direction. He said the new unit will render valuable and most sought-after medicare service to a particular category of patients whose heart-rate suddenly increases, which requires frequent hospitalization. This facility at SKIMS, he said, would reduce dependence of patients on treatment available outside the State. Prof. Zargar said SKIMS also held a workshop to train doctors about the operation of this equipment which was conducted by Dr. M. Y. Kunjwal, Director, Electro-Physiology Department, University of Toledo, Ohio, USA. He said Dr. Khurshid Iqbal, Professor of Cardiology and Chief, Cath Lab, SKIMS, was associated with Dr. Kunjwal in imparting training at the workshop.
