471 undeserved BPL ration cards excluded from lists

Reiterating that providing of sufficient and quality food grains to the consumers of state is the priority of the government, the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) and Transport, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon has stressed upon the concerned authorities to work with zeal and dedication and ensure the supply and stocking of food grains to the consumers of state as per the norms and procedures, prescribed by the government to all sale centres so that the rationees could get their ration well in time.

This was stated by the Minister while reviewing the supply and stock positions of essentials available in Kashmir province at a high level meeting held here today.

Minister of State for CAPD & Transport, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan, Secretary CAPD & Transport, Mr. K.B. Jandial, Director CAPD Kashmir, Mr. Mehraj-ud-Din Kenu, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of all districts participated in the meeting.

The Minister directed the authorities that transition should be made up to 25th of every month and coupons of ration cards should be submitted to the higher authorities before 5th of every month so that ration quota of subsequent month would be issued well in time to the sale outlets. He stressed that policies and procedures adopted by the government for providing ration to the consumers should be implemented in full and any laxity in this regard will not be tolerated and guilty officers would be dealt with as per law.

The Minister directed that the officers that stocking of food grains in remote and hilly areas should be the priority of the department. While reviewing the stock position of food grains of cut off areas during winter months, the Minister said that cent percent stocking has been made in Gurez, Keran and Machal while as stocking of food grains in Karnah would be ensured up to the end of this month.

The Minister ordered that licenses of those dealers of Kerosene Oil and food grains will be cancelled forthwith who did not follow the rules and instructions of the department. He directed for maintaining sale registers, counterfoils at all sale outlets and directed the concerned authorities for frequent checks of these sale outlets to check the quality of food grains. He also directed for displaying rate lists and BPL lists on every sale outlets. He further instructed the officers that ration should be issued to the sale outlets as per the coupons submitted by them to the department.

Mr. Akhoon instructed the concerned Assistant Directors to conduct meetings with dealers and public to aware them about the new policies and procedures adopted by the government for providing hassle free ration to the consumers of the state. He directed for issuance of 50kg ration per family in every nook and corners of the state for the current month as wells.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan asked the functionaries of the department to work with zeal and dedication and come to the expectation of the people as the department is directly connected with the general public.

The meeting was informed that 471 undeserved BPL and AAY ration cards in Kashmir division have been excluded from the lists and efforts are on in detecting un-deserved families who are getting these facilities. It was also informed that 53 Kerosene Oil licenses have been recommended for cancellation by the concerned Assistant Directors because these licenses were found in the name of relatives of CAPD employees. The meeting was further informed that during the month of September 44100 metric tones of food grains have been released under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in the Kashmir division.
