JK Govt to procure 2 Road Sweeping Machines

Minister for R&B, Mr. G.M. Saroori reviewed the contingency plans formulated for meeting the challenges of approaching winter at a meeting of the engineers of Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) held here today.

The Minister was informed that 24 snow clearance machines have been kept in ready condition to meet the requirements of the season.

Mr. Saroori asked the engineers to prioritize the roads for snow clearance keeping in view their importance and movement of the traffic. He said airport road, inter district highways besides roads leading to hospitals and other places having public importance should be given priority for clearance.

The Minister said that two road sweeping machines one each for Srinagar and Jammu cities would be procured shortly to be used for surface cleaning of the roads before macadamization. He said the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah was interested in having such sophisticated machines, adding that a proposal has been sent to Planning Department for release of funds.

The Road Sweeping Machine having a sweeping path of 10 feet (3048 mm), with duel side brushes, a reservoir capacity of 50 Ltrs and water sprinkling system, will sweep 10 kilometers of road per hour and would bring revolution in the road macadamization process in the State, it was revealed.
