PCB recommends closure of 22 brick kilns, 39 stone crushers

*Ensure that environment and agriculture are not affected badly

State Pollution Control Board has recommended the closure of twenty-two (22) brick kilns and 39 stone crushers.

This was disclosed in a meeting of officers here this morning chaired by the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir. Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Sonali Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Naseema Lankar, Secretary, Revenue, Ejaz Iqbal, Managing Director, State Pollution Control Board and other officers were present in the meeting.

Chairing the meeting, the Minister asked the administration to be tough and enforce law to discourage unlicensed brick kilns and stone crushers having been set up in the state. The Minister has also directed the concerned agencies to ensure that the licensed units confirm to the basic norms as laid down by law.

The Minister asked the Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu to monitor the situation in this regard and direct all Deputy Commissioners to regulate these units as per the guidelines provided under law.

Mir asked all the concerned departments to take a holistic view of the situation and ensure that environment and agriculture are not affected badly due to non compliance of normative measures by the units.
