Sakina pleads for timely release of funds under welfare schemes
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mr Salman Khurshid in the 2nd session of the interaction with the delegates from within and outside the State in 3rd Editors Conference, said that the ministry started the process of analyzing the important needs of the minority communities, work for their solutions and focus attentions on their requirements and concerns reflected in the 5year plan and the annual plans from 2007 -08 to 2009-10.
The Union Minister while referring to Sacher Committee report said that several measures have been initiated for implementation of its recommendations which include launching of pre-matric and post-matric scholarships and multi sectoral developmental programmes,. He said setting up off more girls hostels in colleges, universities in minority concentrated districts and blocks is also proposed under the existing UGC schemes. The Union Minister said that multi sectoral development programmes for 90 minority concentration districts has been launched in 2008-09 with the allocation of Rs 270.85 cr.
Later, welcoming the Union Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid and Delegates and other senior central officers, the Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo highlighted the needs and requirements of the under privileged sections of the society in the State. She requested the Union Minister to accord approval to all the cases pending with the Centre. The Minister also requested for enhancing the amount from 35 thousand to 50 thousand under IAY scheme. She also impressed upon the Central ministry to release funds in time so that these are utilised within the scheduled period in view of limited working season in the state. Member Parliament, Mr. Sharief-ud-Din Shariq was also present on the occasion.
