JK Govt constructing Toll Plazas at Lakhanpur & Nagri

Estimated cost of Lakhanpur Tool plaza is over 32 crores and Nagri Toll Plaza is Rs. 8.85 crore

The Jammu and Kashmir Government is all set to construct a Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur with an estimated cost of over 32 crores. Relevant to mention here that Lakhanpur is the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir state where toll post revenue collection is done and state government generates maximum excise revenue. The Toll Plaza will be constructed on over 156 kanals land. Government is in the process of for acquiring of 109 kanal more land. An amount of Rs.23 crore will be spent in first phase. The Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur will consists of Administrative Block, Recreation Complex, Animal Husbandry Department, Driver Shelters, Dhabas for Drivers, Toilet Complex, Parking Yard for 240 trucks, nine Weigh Bridges. The excise revenue collection at Lakhanpur up to October, 2009 was to the tune of 332 crore which is 57 crore higher than for the same period in previous year. The toll post revenue collection up to October, 2009 is 121 crore which is 14 crore higher than the same period of previous year.

• 8 computerized weigh bridges (5 in import and 3 in export).

• Parking Yard for 76 Heavy Motor Vehicles

• Office Block for Excise and Commercial taxes Department

• Twelve units of flats for Inspectors.

Another Toll Plaza is being constructed at Nagri which is on Old Bus Stand Road Kathua over 38 kanal with an estimated cost of Rs. 8.85 crore. An amount of Rs. 2.97 crore have been spent on this project so far. At present one weigh bridge is functioning and other one will be started functioning within week’s time. Minister for Cooperatives (Independent Charge) Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma inspected Toll Plaza Lakhanpur and Nagri today and viewed the site plan and hold discussions with officers of construction Agency. Minister showed his dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work and directed the construction agency to gear up the construction work so that it can be completed within stipulated time frame. It was apprised to the Minister that there is scope for expanding it in the future. The Minister was apprised that Excise revenue collection at Lakhanpur up to October, 2009 was to the tune of 332 crore which is 57 crore higher than for the same period in previous year. The toll post revenue collection up to October, 2009 is 121 crore which is 14 crore higher than the same period of previous year. The Minister held meeting with Deputy Commissioner Excise and Deputy Commissioner, Commercial taxes and enquired about the revenue and tax collections. The Minister said that Lakhanpur is main source of revenue for the state. We have to work with dedication and zeal, he added. Deputy Commissioner Excise informed that no complaint has been received in the complaint box till yet. The Minister said that revenue targets should be achieved and there should be no compromise. He said that our attitude towards the public should be friendly and public should be facilitated with our services. The Minister also held interaction session with the transporters and enquired about the functioning of tax collection centers. Later, the Minister also inspected Toll Plaza at Nagri.
