Shri Mata Vashnodevi University's 2nd convocation tomorrow

The rapid development and growth of Shri Mata Vashnodevi University is amply visible through its physical and academic infrastructure, said VC N.K Bansal at Jammu today. Talking to media persons on the occasion of the second convocation of the University being held tomorrow, the VC said that based on academic strength of different schools, the University has set up four Centres

of Excellence. These include the Centre for Industrial Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Centre for Embedded Instrumentation and Networked Controls, Centre for Energy Management and Water Resources and Centre for Entrepreneurial Development. These centres are involved in cutting edge research like DNA finger prints in selected medicinal plants (collaboration with M/S Dabur India Ltd.), Fermentative production of lactic acid from Mahua flowers, micro-propagation, cultivation, process and utilization of bamboo (a project under National Bamboo
Mission), Embedded Systems and Intelligent Networked Controls, Renewable Energy, Energy and Environmental Policy, and Entrepreneurship Skills Development Programs etc, he said. Besides studies, our students are engaged in several social activities he added. Prof Bansal gave a detailed review of the working of the University
and said that ‘We have made a beginning for a quality institution aiming to achieve academic excellence at par with leading National as well as International institutions. Let the people provide their support to faculty and management of this great institution’, he added. He said relevance and employability are the essence of all our
teaching programs. The University is presently offering six undergraduate and nine postgraduate programs, besides offering Ph.D. in all the thirteen Schools. He said the University has laid great emphasis on interactive programsand several conferences and workshops have been organized. College of Management has already organized eight National level seminars on topics like Business Environment in the 21st Century; Emergence of
Service Sector led Growth, Supply Chain Management and Motivation Strategy for the Employees in Emerging Business Environment: Issues and Concerns, Business Development Program. School of Computer
Science & Engineering and School of Electronics and Communication Engineering have organized two short-term courses each in collaboration with RED HAT India Pvt. Ltd. and Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (IETE). He said that in tomorrow’s convocation 338 candidates will receive
their degrees including three degrees for Doctor of Philosophy. He said Narayan Murthy of Infosys Technologies will be the chief guest while the Governor N N Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of the
University, will preside over and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will be Guest of Honour.
