VC inaugurates green house faculty at CORD

Society as expectations on you: VC to scholars

Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Riyaz Punjabi today inaugurated the Green house, with six compartments established by the Center of Research for Development (CORD), the University of Kashmir, at Naseem Bagh, to help the scholars to carry forward their research in new areas like environment biotechnology, pesticides and environment, weed control and other areas. The Green House has been completed at cost of Rs 25 lacs.

Speaking on the occasion Vice Chancellor Prof Riyaz Punjabi was all praised for Center of Research for Development KU and said that it is our Central research Unit looking after research aimed at development of the state. Society as a whole has lot of expectations on this centre and looks at it to Identity various problems related to the overall development of the state VC said that he was happy that Researchers at CORD are fulfilling with enthusiasm the main objective for which the centre was created that is undertaking interdisciplinary research projects in close coordination with various development department of J&K state.

VC hoped that CORD will develop new techniques and make improvements in the already existing techniques. Prof Riyaz Punjabi said that he is more than happy the way CORD has attained some of its set goals which include besides others the Regeneration of several endangered medicinal plants attained through tissue culture, management plans suggested for several degraded lakes, wetlands and other water bodies, Environmental management Plan formulated for several development projects of the state.

Centre provides training, facilities and guidance for pursuing M. Sc project works of other Indian Universities in various areas like plant biotechnology, limnology, aquatic ecology, terrestrial ecology etc. Centre also undertakes Limnology/ water quality/ Air Quality tests for various Central/ State Govt. Departments/ Public Sector Agencies/Organizations.

The Director Center of Research for Development, University of Kashmir Prof. Azra Nahid Kamli talked about the achievements of her centre and assured VC that she and her staff would do every thing to come to the expectations of the society. Prof A R Yousuf Dean Academic Affairs and senior professor of the CORD informed the VC that the faculty and the research scholars associated with various research projects are doing their best to make the centre compete with other centres of the same nature in India and aboard. Prof Yousuf requested the VC for further expansion of the centre in term of the faculty, technical staff and infrastructure. Special secretary to VC Qaiser Ajaz accompanied Vice Chancellor. VC later visited the guest house under construction at campus and directed the Executive Engineer KU Mufti Burhan to complete the project within two months times.
