Balwant invited to Intl Theatre Roundtable Meet


Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur has been invited to participate ‘Theatre Round Table’- an International convention of theatre directors, being held in Delhi on 7th and 8th of January, 2010. A press statement said that apart from the top theatre directors of the country, the theatre directors from U.K., France, Italy, Germany, China, Israel, Singapore, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh are participating.

It also said that the National School of Drama, New Delhi is the host of this programme and the event also marks the opening of 12th Bharat Rang Mahotsav which is going to feature 86 selected theatre plays of India and 13 International plays coming from world over. Balwant Thakur, will deliberate on the contemporary theatre scene of India. The other major areas which will come under discussion will include ‘Theatre Censorship’, ‘Theatre Portals and Archives’ ‘Theatre Music’ and ‘Theatre & Science’.

It further said that Balwant Thakur has the credit of being the first theatre person from J&K who has won International acclaim for his most outstanding theatre work which he despite all odds has been carrying over successfully since last thirty years now. He has successfully presented his presentations in London, Oxford, Brighton, Stratford, Rome, Venice, Berlin, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia, Moscow, Istanbul, Yoroslov, Belgrade, Dubai, Sharjah, Abudhabi, and Dhaka. Conferred with the highest Indian honor in performing arts, Balwant Thakur is also a ‘Sanskriti’ Awardee and have been a fellow of The Ford Foundation, USA.
