Sa Ma Pa festival in Jammu from January 8
Sa Ma Pa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) is organizing a Music Festival from 8th of January,2010 to 24th January 2010 in various Educational Institutions, Cultural Centres and Auditoriums of the Jammu Region. Stating this at a news conference here this morning, Mr. Abhey Rustum Sopori said that the festival will feature some special recitals besides a concert for inmates of Central Jail, Jammu and for media persons in collaboration with Press Club, Jammu on 10th of January 7 p.m. Dogri Folk music, and presentations of some local musicians will be part of the festival. The festival will be organized in collaboration with J&K Tourism Press Club, Jammu and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The festival was started in th year 2006 with a weeklong festival and has been witnessed by more than 15000 students and music connoisseurs so far. Over the years the festival has grown into a fortnight long cultural feast and has attained the stature of the biggest and most prestigious music festival of not only the J&K State but also the Northern India region. Conceived by the internationally acclaimed Santoor maestro and composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, Sa Ma Pa Aalap festival is specially youth oriented and a step forward towards achieving the aim of Sa Ma Pa Academy-jan jan tak sangeet (music to the masses). This year the festival will be held from 8th-24th January 2010 with around 25 presentations at various venues including educational institutes, cultural centers and auditoriums of Jammu like Govt. College for Women (Gandhi Nagar), Govt. College for Women (Parade), MAM College, GGM Science College, GGM Commerce College, Gandhi College (Bantalab), Jodhamal School, K.C. Public School, Lawrence School, DBN School, K.L. Saigal Hall, Institute of Music & Fine Arts etc. The festival will also feature some special recitals. This includes for the first time a dedicated function held at the Jammu Press Club for the journalists and media personalities of J&K. Another concert will be held in the border area R.S. Pora. A special concert will also be organized at the district Central Jail, Jammu designed for the inmates and staff of the Prisons Department. Abhay Rustam Sopori (Santoor) Pandit Deebu Chaudhuri (Star) Harish Tiwani (Vocal) Danish Aslam Khan (Sarod) Rajni Renu (Sofi vocal) are expected to take part in the festival.
