Gauri Kaul Heart Foundation, Amity Institute of Public Health and DHS Kashmir organise health camp to evaluate ‘Cervical Health’ of Kashmiri Women

SRINAGAR: Gauri Kaul Heart Foundation along with Amity Institute of Public Health, Amity University Uttar Pradesh and the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu & Kashmir Government organised a health camp at JLNM Hospital Srinagar Kashmir to evaluate the “Cervical Health” of Kashmiri Women.  Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common women-centric cancer in India and an unmet clinical need that can be successfully addressed with the provision of its timely detection through cervical cancer screening programs at the community level.

To this end, A health camp to evaluate cervical health and promote health literacy about both cervical health and reproductive health was organized today at the JLNM Hospital at Srinagar, Kashmir, among the women from the marginalized sections of the society by Gauri Kaul Heart Foundation along with Amity Institute of Public Health, Amity University Uttar Pradesh and the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu & Kashmir Government.

The women evaluated at the “Cervical Health Camp” were also subjected to questionnaire-based data along with some primary clinical tests to assess their Knowledge, Awareness, and Practices about Cervical cancer, Menstrual Hygiene and also Reproductive Health.

Following are the details of the tests conducted at the health camp:

  • Registration of subjects
  • Questionnaire-based data collection
  • Colposcopy
  • Height measurement
  • Weight Measurement
  • BP measurement
  • Gynecological checkup
  • ECG
  • Clinical tests(As per Gynecologist’s suggestions)
  • HbA1C

The camp was successful as more than 100 women were evaluated at the health camp. These women were also counseled about Cervical Cancer, Adoptive Practices of Menstrual Hygiene including the use of Sustainable Menstruation practices and, Reproductive health by the Consultant Gynecologists associated with the camp. We do believe that these kinds of collaborative initiatives at the community level will go a long way for not only identifying the patterns and processes associated with the incremental burden of cervical cancer but also providing improving

“Cervical Health” and also the “Reproductive Health” of the 450 million plus menstruators across the Indian Sub-continent.
