Multicentre Workshop on Reproductive Health Issues and the importance of Genetic Testing begins at CUJ

JAMMU: A Multicentre Workshop on Reproductive Health Issues and the importance of Genetic Testing from 14th – 20th February, 2023 organized by the Centre forMolecular Biology, Central University of Jammu in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology, SMVDU, Katra, J & K began at CUJ. The workshop is Sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Govt. of India under the collaborative research project titled “A Multi-institutional Centre for Advance Research (CAR) in Human Reproductive Biology” being carried executed at CUJ, SMVDU, Jammu University and Kashmir University since 2019.

Inaugural session of the seven days workshop began on 14th February, 2023 under the patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CUJ.While delivering his presidential address, Prof. Jain highlighted the role of genetic testing for proper diagnosis of various reproductive health related diseases in the society for devising better strategies for their prevention and care.

Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Director, AcSIRwas the Chief Guest on the occasion and he emphasized on the role of genetic testing for improving the technologies for genetic analysis of reproductive cancer in J & K. Prof. Anil Mehta, former, Head, Department of Obs and Gynae, GMC Kathua delivered the keynote address on “Menopause”. Prof. Mehta emphasized on the need to follow a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and daily exercise from the pre-menopausalage of 40 years to prevent any severe adverse effects in women. He also stressed on the importance of family support for women undergoing menopause and seeking medical attention if experiencing any severe effects. Prof. Rima Dada from AIIMS, New Delhi who delivered a plenary talk on male infertility showed how sperm count and quality have decreased significantly in the Indian population, primarily due to environmental and lifestyle factors and how yoga can help to reverse these conditions. Dr. Neeraj Chauhan from ThermoFisher Scientific demonstrated how modern technology is assisting medical practitioners to deal with the infertility-related issues.

The Deans of various schools including Prof B.S Bhau, Prof. Devanand, Prof. Rasal Singh, Prof. Deepak Pathania and HoDs, Registrar, CUJ, Directors of Centres, faculty members and participants were present on the occasion. Dr. Audesh Bhat, Organizing Secretary conducted the proceedings and Dr.Rakesh Kumar from the School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, Katra proposed the vote of thanks.
