Talking to Ajmer Alam Wani, Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, about this film, Mir Sarwar said that this film is about the piracy of films which were on the peak in the 90's in J&K and other parts of the country. Shahid Kazmi the Director of the film watched Pushpa and said that he will also make a similar film in the backdrop of J&K. The whole film was shot in and around Bhaderwah town.
According to Sarwar, the film ‘The Era of 1990’ is a mass entertainer and people will enjoy watching this. One message which it can give is that independent films can also be made in small budgets with limited facilities but it can compete with the mainstream films as well.
Though many people believe that the piracy is an outdated subject now as digitization has a monopoly, yet as per Sarwar, it is relevant as people still download pirated versions of the movies online. On downloading pirated versions, Sarwar said, “I don't think that should be done because so many OTT platforms are available nowadays and people can watch them easily with the better quality”.
On acting and performance in the film, Sarwar told, all of actors are brilliant and have done a great job. Arjun Manhas is amazing and so is Shadab Khan along with Ray Parihar, Rajeev Rana. Sara Khan is brilliant as always and Veena Puthran, Arti Bhagat as well. Shanky Sharma has choreographed all the stunts, that's commendable and is actually the main highlight of the film.
“I am sure people will like this film and spread the word so that independent film makers will get some benefit out of it” Sarwar mentioned.
Replying to a question on his role and acting, he said, “I always try my best to give 100% to the character which I am playing. My four films lined this month Am I Next, The era of 1990, HUNTER with Suniel Shetty and LEECH. All the characters are different from one another and it's good to show my versatility as an actor. I am really keen to do more challenging characters in the future”.
He added further, “I have many films and web series lined up. Few releasing this month, besides those films some other projects are IB 71 with Vidyut Jamwal, Ranneeti with Jimmy Shergill and Gadar 2 with Sunny Deol. I have been part of other independent films as well which I choose because of the strong characters which I am offered. Moreover I have directed the film Bed No. 17 which will be released soon and two web series are under production one is FUNDHBAAZ and the other one is KUCH BAQI HAI”.
