EC reviews poll preparedness for 4th, 5th phases of LS polls

Holds meetings with political parties, Administration

Election Commissioner of India Dr. S. Y. Quraishi today arrived here to review poll preparedness for the fourth and fifth phases of the Parliamentary Elections 2009 in J&K. He was accompanied by Mr. S. K. Mendiratta, Legal Advisor, Election Commission during his day-long visit. After arriving in the summer capital, Dr. Quraishi met with the representatives of various political parties including NC, PDP, Congress, CPI, RJD, JKNPP and NCP.

The Election Commissioner also had a meeting with civil and police administration to review the arrangements being made for the final two phases of the five-phased Lok Sabha elections in the State. The meeting was attended by Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Mr. B. R. Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Masaud Samoon, IGP Kashmir Zone, Dr. B. Srinivas, District Election Officers and Election Observers of Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts, besides DIGs, Central Kashmir and North Kashmir Range. 

Later, the Election Commissioner also held a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur, DGP, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda and Financial Commissioner, Home, Mr. Samuel Verghese.
Before leaving for New Delhi, Dr. Quraishi addressed a press conference at SKICC here.  
Elections will be held for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in the fourth phase on May 7 while as in the fifth phase, voting will be held in Baramulla and Ladakh Parliamentary constituencies.
