Underlining the need for upgraded road connectivity of the rural and far-flung areas, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today asked the officers to complete all the roads being constructed under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) phase-I and II in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban district within three months.
The Minister was addressing Annual Performance Reviewing meeting of the districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban of rural development department. The meeting was attended by the local legislators of the area, Secretary Rural Development, Director Rural Development, Jammu and senior officers of the department.
Terming National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) as a monumental programme which guarantees employment to the people living in rural areas, the Minister asked the officers to see to it that the payment is made under the scheme within 15 days so that the people do not have any misgiving regarding the same. “We have to ensure that the job card is prepared within the shortest possible time and the wages earned by the holders are giving to them within a fortnight. By doing same we would be encouraging more and more people to avail the benefits of this flagship scheme”, he maintained.
While referring to the rural sanitation scheme, Mr. Sagar said that an amount of Rs. 5.37 crore has been spent in these districts and we will ensure that all the schools would be brought under a total sanitation campaign in the current financial year.
It was given in the meeting that under NREGA 34105, 28841 and 19802 households have been provided work in the districts of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar respectively. Similarly, 2646, 977, 2315 families have been given a complete package of 100 days work in the districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban.
The meeting was informed that four and six each model villages are being developed under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme in Ramban and Kishtwar, Doda respectively.
Besides, 29.984 kms of link roads have been executed under NREGA with an expenditure of Rs 4.17 crore in Doda district .Similarly, an amount of Rs. 61.49 lakh have been spent under Indira Awas Yojna under 12th Finance Commission Award.
In Kishtwar district, an amount of Rs. 51.2 lakhs has been spent under Indira Awas Yojna by constructing 107 numbers of houses. Besides, an amount of Rs.1.08 crore has been spent under 12th Finance Commission by taking up 305 numbers of works. In Ramban district, an amount of Rs. 1.47 crore has been spent under 12th Finance Commission Award by undertaking 436 works. Similarly, a ceiling of Rs. 4.81 crore has been communicated by the department under Backward Region Grant Fund.
The Secretary Rural Development Department gave a brief resume about the various schemes and status viz a viz implementation and funds utilized.
