Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah has emphasised on developing Jammu & Kashmir state as a Talent Hub for industry to attract investments from all over the country. He called for establishing Centres of Excellence at the universities of Kashmir and Jammu to create nerve centres for capacity-building, skill development and employability in educated youth.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a presentation meeting of Task Force of NASSCOM, held here today. The meeting was held to apprise the Chief Minister about initial findings of the organization regarding capacity-building and employability of educated youth of the State.
Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Devender Singh Rana, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Mr. Riyaz Punjabi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Members of the Task Force and Faculty Heads of the University of Kashmir attended the meeting.
The Task Force comprising Dr. Uma Ganesh, CEO, Global Talent Track, Ms. Lavanya Jairam, India Region Head, ZenSar Technologies, Mr. Sandeep Raina, Vice President, CISCO, Mr. Avinash Raghava, Director, NASSCOM and Mr. Ashok Koul, animation specialist and filmmaker visited Kashmir Valley for identification and implementation of Talent Development Programme on the invitation of Mr. Abdullah, who has launched a sustained campaign since he took over as Chief Minister to rope in investors and improve employability and marketability of educated youth in available job market.
The Task Force’s objective is to identify potential of students, give them competitive edge by equipping them with knowledge and skills in variety of sectors and build a collaborative platform for industry, academia and students for skill development.
The Chief Minister said the government wants to improve employability of its educated youth for which training in capacity building is a prerequisite. He said government is focusing on also improving IT and other-related skills of the youth to suit present-day job market. “The universities could prove highly effective in collaborating with NASSCOM and other like organizations in realizing this goal. We have to make our educated boys and girls aware that there are hundreds of jobs available for them which could be easily attained by adopting diversification and training,” the Chief Minister said.
Mr. Abdullah asked the Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, to formulate a comprehensive proposal for establishing Centre of Excellence at the university, adding similar facility will be created at Jammu University as well.
The Chief Minister asked NASSCOM to carry forward the programme it has launched in the valley to train 600 students, in collaboration with University of Kashmir, and hoped that its success will inspire other students to follow suit.
Vice Chairman and CEO, ZenSar Technologies, Dr. Ganesh Natrajan gave a resume of the activities of the Task Group in the valley and identified areas where State government has to come forward for financial and logistical support.
Three power-point presentations were also made in the meeting by Chairman, J&K Bank, Dr. Haseeb Drabu, Dr. Ganesh and Ms. Jairam.
