Modern tourist city centre at Srinagar on anvil: Jora

Rs 11.59 cr TRC Nowgam to be completed by Oct-09

The construction work of Rs 11.59 crore Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) Nowgam in Budgam district is apace and would be completed by October this year.

This information was given to Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today during his inspection to the complex. He was informed that Rs 4.50 crore was expended on the execution of the complex till date.

Director Tourism Kashmir, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Deputy Director Tourism, Mr. S. K. Saproo and other senior officers and engineers accompanied the Minister.

The Minister was told that the TRC is being constructed on modern lines with state of art facilities. The complex’s would have all facilities like cafeteria, 48 accommodation rooms, information centre, parking facilities, open air restaurant, theatre and shopping malls for the tourists.

The Minister instructed for some additions and alternations in this complex and directed for fencing of the whole area of 101 kanals of land occupied by the tourism department for the purpose.

He said that government has initiated various steps for augmenting infrastructure under the tourism sector for the visiting domestic and international tourists in the state. He said focused attention is being paid to identify new tourist destination in hilly and remote areas of the state.

Mr. Jora said that the tourism potential of Srinagar, the summer capital of the state would be fully explored and new infrastructure is being created in the city for the tourists besides providing employment opportunity to the local youth with incentives by the government.

He said a modern tourist city centre at old tourist reception centre would be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore having all facilities available for the tourists. He said the tourist centre would also provide the facilities of counters for establishment of various stalls related to tourism trade. He directed the concerned officers to complete all codal formalities well in time for early execution of the project.

The Minister stressed upon the officers to work with vigour and dedication and monitored the execution of all ongoing projects besides, ensuring use of quality material for their timely completion.
