Rs. 603.84 crore earmarked for 77 schemes

35 schemes completed at a cost of Rs. 277 cr: Minister

Government is committed to connect the remotest part of the state with each other through road communication network and a 100 day programme has been set for certain projects progress of which would be reviewed every 25 days”.

This was stated by the Minister for R&B, Mr. G. M. Saroori while speaking to some TV channels here today. Minister of State for R&B Mr. Javeed Ahmad Dar was also present on the occasion.

Mr. Saroori said that several decision have been taken to ensure timely completion of on-going projects, adding clear instructions have been issued to engineers of R&B Department to speed up the pace of work on projects in-progress. He said work on 7 road projects in Srinagar district would be completed in double shifts.

The Minister said that Rs. 60 crore have been earmarked for macadamization of roads of Srinagar and Jammu cities. He said the work of macadamization is in full swing in Srinagar while as the same would be started in Jammu after monsoon. Mr Saroori said that 885 projects under R&B sector are being completed at a cost of Rs. 1000 crore, out of which 166 projects stands completed so far. He said that 21 schemes out of 32, deferred due to some technical difficulties, have been cleared for starting the work. He said that priority of the Ministry would be to get projects cleared stopped due to non payment of compensation to the land owners and court directions.

Mr. Saroori said that Rs 2200 crore, Bharat Nirman projects funded by the Centre, aimed to connect every habitation of the state is going on smoothly in the state. He said work on Chatro-Singhpor, Sudmahadev roads would be started shortly to connect the remote village of Kashtwar district with Kashmir. He said that work on 4 lane Mughal road is in progress and Rs. 253 crore have been incurred so far our of total project cost of Rs.639 crores. He said Rs. 603.84 crore are being spent on 77 schemes, funded by the Central Government, out of which 35 schemes have been completed at a cost of Rs. 277 crore. He said orders for restarting work on18 deferred schemes have been issued, adding Rs. 195 crore have been earmarked for the purpose.

The Minister said that financial assistance would be sought from NABARD to complete other small schemes under execution in the state.

Appealing to the media, Mr Saroori said that media has to play vital role in the development process started by the government at different levels. He sought their cooperation in implementing the policies and programmes of the government. He said the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister would definitely change the developmental scenario of the state. The Minister said better road communication and other facilities is primary requirement for boosting tourism in the state.
