Srinagar city to get 2000 new parking slots

Minister of state for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani today visited different locations of Srinagar city to take stock of various developmental works coming up in connection with provisions of parking facilities in and around the city.

Minister was accompanied by Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Srinagar, Khawaja Farooq Ahmed Renzu, Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Mr. Baseer Ahmed Khan, IG, Traffic and other concerned officers.

The Minister visited the State of Art, Sangarmal Shopping Complex constructed on 75 kanals of land, the complex will be having a craft bazar, shopping complex, parking facilities for about 1000 vehicles, restaurants, amusement park, service centers and will be fitted with escalators and lifts. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. The minister also visited old State Motor Garage premises at residency road, where parking cum commercial facility is coming up to accommodate around 355 parking slots. During his visit to upcoming Multilevel parking cum commercial complex at Sheikh Bagh, the Minister directed the SDA authorities to enhance the parking facilities from current provision of 200 slots to 500 slots so that adequate parking facility is provided around the central business hub of Lal chowk. At KMD the minister was informed that parking facility for 200 vehicles will be provided.

The Minister directed the concerned authorities to come up with the estimated project cost for these new slated parking facilities at State Motor Garage, Sheikh Bagh and KMD Lal Chowk within this month only so that work on these projects is taken up at the earliest.

At bus terminal Panthachowk, the Minister directed IG traffic to ensure that all trucks which are parked on road sides are parked inside the bus terminal where adequate parking space of 100 kanals is available for them. He also directed the SDA authorities to set up medical aid dispensary at the bus terminal and also make suitable provision for drinking water facility.
