Omar declares Indo-Pak PMs joint statement at Sharmal-i- Sheik victory of his stance

Friendly relations between two counties shall pave the way for everlasting peace in J&K

While welcoming the joint statement of Prime Ministers’ of India and Pakistan, Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah said that the success of Sharmal-i-Sheikh meeting is not only the victory of his stand but victory of billions of people of sub-continent, who strongly believe in peace and abhor violence. He said the cordial meeting between the two Prime Ministers has become historical as both the countries have agreed to delink terrorism from Indo-Pak dialogue.

The Chief Minister said that past situation is witness to the fact that stray incidents of terror had delayed composite dialogue as had happened after Mumbai terror attack. He said agreement between both the Prime Ministers to discuss all outstanding issues between the two countries is a positive understanding, which will lead all of us towards an era of peace and tranquility and defeat forces having vested interest in violence.

Mr. Omar Abdullah reiterated his viewpoint that dialogue is the only way to resolve all outstanding issues and agreement between Indo-Pak Prime Ministers, who recognized this fact, has strengthened this belief further.

The Chief Minister said that everybody is conscious of the fact that both the countries particularly Jammu and Kashmir has suffered due to Indo-Pak confrontation. “Our economy has collapsed during last two decades and we are struggling hard to revive the same so that the development of the state is ensured”, he said, adding that agreement between the Prime of India and Prime Minister of Pakistan having stressed on development and elimination of poverty is a positive step towards achieving the goal of prosperity.

Mr. Omar Abdullah said that the success of meeting between the two Prime Ministers’ lies in the fact that both have reached to an agreement to work for creating an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence and promote regional cooperation. “We were waiting for this agreement for long as it will silence forces inimical to peace”, he said and appealed people of the state to gear up themselves for golden chapter of peace, development and mutual cooperation.

The Chief Minister said that his government is determined to realize the dream of the people to usher Jammu and Kashmir in an era of all round development and economic self-sufficiency.
