Joint survey team to submit the damaged report of crops, fruits within week’s time

Minister of State for Agriculture, Health, Medical Education and R&B, Mr. Javid Ahmad Dar today made an extensive tour of hailstorm hit areas of Rafiabad, Baramulla and Langate-Kupwara to take on-the-spot appraisal of damage caused to fruits, vegetables and standing crops. The areas were affected by the hailstorm yesterday evening and have caused maximum damage to horticulture produce and standing crops.
The worst hit areas are Rawchooa, Sangrampora, Hardochanum, Hatchipora, Chatosa and Waripora of Rafiabad. While on Ringpath, Renin, Tangwara, Qunnel, Mangwalpora and Radikhai-Annanwan of Langate constituency have suffered the damage.
Minister was accompanied by MLA, Langate, Engineer Abdul Rashid, Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Mr. Showkat Ahmad Mir, Director Horticulture, Director Agriculture, Deputy Director Health Services and all district officers of concerned departments of Baramulla and Kupwara.
Mr. Javid visited every affected village of Rafiabad and Langate and directed Deputy Commissioners Baramulla and Kupwara on the spot to constitute a joint team of officers of Horticulture, Agriculture and Revenue department to asses the damages caused. He directed them to give a detailed report within a week’s time so that government will take all necessary steps to provide succor to the affected growers and farmers at the earliest.
During the tour, the people at different places showed damaged fruits and crops affected due to hailstorm to the Minister. The people informed the Minister that they had lost everything due to natural calamity during last three to four days and have borrowed money from banks, fruit merchants of Sopore and Delhi as an advance for pesticide spray and fertilizers and demanded adequate relief to their damaged fruits and standing crops.
Mr. Javid assured the people of the affected areas that government is committed to provide every help to the people particularly during natural calamity.
Referring the damage caused by wild windstorm at Handwara and Langate constituency of district Kupwara some days back, the Minister said that Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah left the Assembly session half-way to personally visit the affected areas by foot with a team of cabinet members and officers to assess the loss of property and crops on-the-spot. He assured the people that as soon as government receives the damage assessment of fruits and crops, every assistance would be provided to the affected.
During the visit people also highlighted other problems regarding scarcity of water and shortage of foodgrains in their respective areas. He directed Deputy Commissioners of Baramulla and Kupwara on-the-spot to take necessary steps to mitigate the problems of the people.
