VC for setting up task force for re-appraisal of criminal justice system in J&K

He was presiding The 33rd All India Criminology Conference at the University titled "Criminal Justice, System Challenges and Future Agenda" organized by the varsity’s Department of Law in association with Indian Society of Criminology (ISC), Chennai concluded here at Kashmir University today.

Vice chancellor Kashmir University in his presidential address said on the occasion that many issues on criminal justice in India were put in focus during the three days of the conference especially by speakers like the Jammu and Kashmir Governor, N N Vohra and Prof . Menon. VC said that new
mechanisms are to be developed to deal with the new situations arising out of the changing nature of crime.
Addressing directly to chief guest Ali Mohammad Sagar VC called for ensuring that Nayak Panchayats are strengthened as they are sure to reduce the burden on courts and help provide speedy justice. VC one again called for the restructuring of criminology curriculum in the country and said unless we don’t have broad based and clear curriculum laws on crime will be faulty.
Minister for parliamentary affairs and rural development Ali Mohammad Sagar was the chief guest on the occasion called for following respective religions to have a crime free society. Quoting examples from the life of the prophet of Islam Mohamamd (SAW) sagar said that we fail to live a good life because we move away from the teachings of our respective religions. Law unless enforced has no meaning said Sagar and looked forward to a criminal justice system which is speedy and humane . Sagar showered heaps of praises on VC KU Prof Riyaz Punjabi saying that he has brought new vigor and enthusiasm in the varsity community and infused new spirit in the campus activities .
Minister for forests and environment Mian altaf Ahmad called for introspection at levels and said that two days deliberations of the conference are bound to help shape things for better in future while formulating the laws for criminal justice system.
Minister for higher education Abdul Ghani Malik said that no system is relevant unless people have faith in it and he advocated for restoring peoples faith in criminal justice system for helping the contemporary society of what he termed as unruly.
Prof Balraj Chawan Vice -Chancellor Ram Lohaia University lucknow refused to call Indian criminal justice system a system and instead preferred to cal it criminal justice anarchy . He called for major changes to make it a system which works on the ground.
Prof Law professor at KU, Prof Meraj-ud-Din wh o was the organizing secretary of the seminar expressed satisfaction on the otcome of the semnar and said that that some 70 teserch paeres were read during the t conference omthe themes Criminal Justice System: Formal and Informal Practices Women Empowerment: Role of National Commission for Women and State Commission for Women Criminal Justice System: Towards Social Classes and Territorial Perspectives Privileged and under privileged Urban and Rural crimes Adult and Youth crimes Prison Management : Recent Trends Developmental Processes: Role of the Criminal Justice Administration Research and Development: Criminological Sectors White Collar Crime with special emphasis on Corporate Crimes Cyber Crimes . Prof S M Afzal presented a detailed report on the coutcome of the conmfetrence before the audience
