Centre releases Rs 639 Cr for Mughal road

*European technology in road construction will benefit maximum rural population.

*90 major and small bridges, adding that 65 bridges would be completed by the end of December, 2009.

*Government has decided to award those engineers who will succeed in achieving 100%, 90% and 80% targets.


The Centre has released entire project cost of Rs. 639 crore for prestigious Mughal road project, With the early availability of funds, the vital inter regional road would be now timely completed.

This was stated by the Minister for R&B, G.M Saroori, while talking to media persons here today. The Minister said that by the personal efforts of Union Health Minister and former Chief Minister of J&K, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Centre had agreed to provide 100% funds for the project. He said Centre has also released Rs. 100 crore additionality for the development of the state because of the personal interest taken by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.

The Minister said work in going on 90 major and small bridges, adding that 65 bridges would be completed by the end of December, 2009 and rest in early next year.

Saroori said that by introducing European technology in road construction, the state would not only save a large amount of funds once it is tested successfully, but would benefit a large population of the rural areas.

The Minister said that Government has decided to award those engineers who will succeed in achieving 100%, 90% and 80% targets. He said seasonal constraints are hampering the development works, adding 1500 MT additional bituminous has been released in the Valley to cover all the areas for macadamization. He asked engineers to speed up the macadamization work in view of limited working season.

“ I achieved 100% target during my tenure” Saroori asserted and said that special instructions have been issued to all the engineers to pursue the target and ensure timely completion of all the projects.

Responding to query regarding delay in macadamization of Batmaloo- Byepass link road, the Minister said that the project is executed by ERA but due to delay in constructions of drains by UEED the project is getting delayed. He assured that the macadamization would be taken up soon after the drainage is completed.

Regarding the closure of certain roads and bridges by security forces at night hours, Saroori said that the matter would be taken up with the Chief Minister, who holds the portfolio of Home Department. In reply to other questions, Saroori assured that the matters would be looked up on priority.
