Yasin Malik is the the chairman of one of the two faction of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, the chairman for other faction is Farooq Siddiqi (Farooq Papa). The organisation Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front split in two after the senior leaders of the party disagreed with his policy of dealing Kashmir issue on bilateral level with India on the basis as was done in NagaLand, for which he held secret meetings with Prime Minister of India Manmohan Sing. He started his movement for liberation of Jammu Kashmir. He spent almost 6 years of his life in jail and in interrogations. Yasin Malik originally came to prominence as a militant area commander under the chief commander of JKLF Ishfaq Wani who was killed in an encounter with Indian army . In 1994 Yasin Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from then he and the organisation he heads Jammu Kashmir liberation front calls for strictly peaceful methods to come to a settlement on the Kashmir Conflict. Yasin Malik also considers the Hindu Kashmiris to be an integral part of Kashmiri society and has insisted on their right of return. Yasin Malik was born in 1963 in a modest Kashmir household of Maisuma Bazar in the Centre of Srinagar. Thirty-five years later he still resides in the same house with his family consisting of his parents and three sisters. In January 2009 married a Pakistani painter Mushaal Malik who is famous for her woman-based paintings.

What he got Azaadi or Khanaabaadi?

By Rakhshanda Sanam

He failed to procure the Aazadi or Freedom but got Mashaal in return. What does Malik’s high profile marriage with a racy artist mean to an ordinary Kashmiri? What is her position vis-a-vis Kashmir politics? What new is cooking in Yasin’s mind and what will be his honeymoon package?

At last, our beloved leader the only leader in the valley who advocates Gandhigiri, Yasin Malik tied his nuptial knot with a Pakistani painter Mashaal Mullick. The Cognac eyed Mashaal has carved a niche in the world of art. She has won acclaim throughout the world in racy paintings. A classy fundraiser, a great aficionado of women’s beauty, who likes to paint women stark naked is now daughter in law of Kashmir and a new heir apparent of JKLF, truly her honeymoon gift. Mr. Malik once an icon of Kashmir’s freedom struggle, now a preacher of non-violence has chosen a high profile artist from Pakistan as his better half. Kashmir asks him why her and not an ordinary girl from the serene land of Kashmir was chosen for this sacred knot. Would he like to answer this question?

A decade ago there was a paradigm shift in Malik’s idiosyncrasy. A man who took arms in early 90’s and then renounced the armed struggle after the decimation at the hands of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. He changed his ideology from Mao to Gandhian like a chameleon. Now, he is a staunch follower of Ahimsaa, an emblem of non-violence, a re-incarnation of Mahatma Gandhi.

Now a day he is projecting JKLF as a secular platform which has a mission and a message of peace. It is the same JKLF, his darling party and a launching pad that has past involvement in various killings. So what happened a decade ago? How did chemical Locha (chemical reaction) took place in Malik’s brain is a moot question?

At times Mr. Malik seems a very bizarre and captivating personality. He is an emotional and opportunistic, yet a connive leader who bypassed everybody’s wit and gripped top rank in his parent organisation. What is he and what is he up to now? Is he in favour of Independent Kashmir, in support of accession with Pakistan or an agent of India? No one knows. His dealings and mission is more secretive than Raw, ISI or CIA. He is the only separatist leader who survived all odds, be the splits in his party or threats from other quarters, yet he established himself as a godfather of Kashmiri nation. How cunning? How smart? Among past and present insurgent leaders he outshined all from Che to Gandhi.

In publicity and propaganda he is better than Joseph Gosbel. My dear fellow Kashmiri’s don’t you consider it strange that Mr. Malik is the only separatist leader who has earned a fund of support from India as well as from Pakistan. He is truly independent, he is free to move anywhere, he has tasted freedom before its onset because he is unique and he is the blessed one as he knows how to court world community, people in Kashmir and leadership of both sides of Indian subcontinent. He has surely come of age. Congratulations and felicitations to you Mr. Malik on achieving this grand success. I wonder in which university did you went to learn such tactics though you are not man of letters.

Well, there is a dire need of professors like you because at present we don’t have propagandists a la Gosbel or Hitler whom can we invite for guest lecturers but you are the best to serve the purpose isn’t it dear leader? My suggestion will serve you multiple purposes- one you can freely visit any place of the world and campaign for yourself and for your newlywed wife .You can incite world leaders around the globe about your Ahimaa as well as Mashaal’s racy and svelte paintings. In fact you can have a free honeymoon trip as a bonus package. How is that Mr. Malik?

It is quite strange that he is being given visa without any delay whereas other separatist leaders hardly earn such stateliness. He is very scheming that he is being invited in many discussions by the Indian media when they know he was an active gunmen whose philosophy was to eliminate people to get his so called Aazadi which has now become a cliché. Why he receives such a clemency is beyond anybody’s comprehension? Why he is darling for Indian media is difficult to understand? He is an intriguing character, an intelligent person who has direct contacts within Indian as well as Pakistani bureaucracy. A onetime killer is now a symbol of peace propagating the messages of harmony. See the tactics.

My dear Mahatma Malik what is your next stunt? Your shaadi khanaaabadi is over what is your next target. And now Mrs. Malik is in Srinagar, so have you thought of any Valima package for poor Kashmiri’s or not. No, I think you are busy with something else but what? What is cooking in you crafty brain? Oh! You might be thinking of planting your young and smart wife at the centre stage of Kashmir politics. So, you are in the making of another Maader-i-Meherbaan (Mother of nation). It has been said that marriages are made in heaven and celebrated on the earth. But in case of Malik and Mashaal, marriage was made as a political mission with the consent of secret agents and solemnised by top brass officials.

Mr. Malik, being a fore runner in so called Aazadi front, a renowned Kashmiri leader, should have kept his marriage simple and set an example for his people. Don’t you know Yasin Sahib we have a crop of orphans and destitute in Kashmir and all because of your tacit tactics. Your guests should have been ordinary people and not political bigwigs across the border.

What was so inimitable in Mashaal other than her racy pictures? In political circles it has been argued that Mashaal-Malik marriage is politically motivated. What is at the core of this relation is better known to you, your lord and other players in this wider game plan. May be Kashmir is heading for another legacy. It is quite possible that in coming days this highly talked marriage will lead to another paradigm shift with Mashaal-Malik at its centre stage. But what is in pipeline for an ordinary Kashmiri is hard to predict when we have leaders like Malik.

From Maisuma to Mashaal how many more drama’s have we to see. How many of us shall die each day in the name of so called dream of Aazadi which has been sold by our foxy leaders. How many of us shall lay red carpet for people like Malik-Mashaal and welcome them with open arms when we know our own heath and hearth is blazing and is on fire since the inception of Aazadi slogan. How many of us have yet to become scapegoats in the name of Independence? Yasin Malik knows better as it is likely he might have a secret deal to sell us all a la British did in 1847.

But isn’t it good for us all Kashmiri’s to forget about much talk and hyped Malik-Mashaal wedding and mind our own business because world is more than Malik’s political gimmicks.
