JK Doctors Call off strike

*All junior doctors to resume duties with immediate effect


*Govt assure by Nov 16, their problems would be resolved


Today at evening Kashmir Junior Doctors Association (JDA) also decided to call off their strike in a meeting chaired by Minister for Finance, Mr Abdul Rahim Rather.

On this occasion, Health Minister, Mr Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Medical and Technical Education, Mr R S Chib, Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Mr Javed Ahmed Dar, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr Devender Singh Rana, Commissioner/Secretary Finance, Mr Sudhanshu Pandey, Commissioner/Secretary Health & Medical Education, Mr Atal Dullo and Director Information Khawaja Farooq Ahmad Renzu were also present, besides all the representatives and spokespersons of doctors association also attended the meeting.

Expressing satisfaction over government’s decision a spokesperson of JDA, Kashmir, said after that threadbare discussion with the committee members it was unanimously decided to call off the strike and resume the duties from tomorrow. He thanked the government for resolving their problems in an amicable manner.

Similar discussions were held with their counter parts in Jammu who also agreed to accept decision of the government.

Addressing the media persons this evening soon after the meeting, Mr Rather said that the problems of doctors would be addressed in a positive manner. He said that the doctors are our children and we are their sympathizers. Unfortunately there was deadlock in the negotiation due to some misunderstanding, which he said has been amicably resolved. He said in view of the visit of Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi and ensuing darbar move, the government has given November 16 date for issuing necessary orders to this effect.

Mr Rather said that government would ensure that the doctors do not suffer in any case. He also agreed to mitigate their other grievances at the earliest.
