Jora stresses for preservation of existing museum as heritage building

Minister for Tourism and CultureNawang Rigzin Jora visited the new SPSMuseum complex here today and inspected the pace of interior work going on this prestigious project completed in a record period of 20 months.The Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums Khurshid Ahmad Qadri informed the Minister about various facets of the Museum complex spread over 105000 sq ft having reception centre, key-gallery, exhibition galleries, reference library, visual storage, Museum shop, conservation laboratory, seminar hall etc. The complex is expected be completed at a cost of Rs. 30.74 crore. The Minister also inspected the work going on heating and cooling system in the complex where work is going on brisk pace.The Minister impressed upon the concerned agency to complete the remaining work speedily and said that the Museum complex would be best museum in the world. He said the complex has been designed to house more than 80,000 artifacts besides other museum activities including educational activities. He also added the new Museum complex would represent the culture of all the sections of the people living in the State.Later,Jora also visited existing SPSMuseum and evinced keeping interest into the collection displayed in the existing complex. He was told that 84,000 objects on varied subjects spanning from 500 B.C. to 20th century A.D. are on display in the Museum.Jora stressed for preservation of existing building as heritage complex, constructed in 1857 A.D.
