Thousands participate in concluding function in presence of HoDs

The 4-day mega exhibition jointly organized by AYUSH, Department of Information and Public Relations, Handicrafts, ISM and FICCI successfully concluded here today with thousands of people attending the concluding function. Director Information, Khawaja Farooq Ahmad Renzu was the chief guest on the occasion and Director Handicrafts, Showkat Ahmad Zargar, Director Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director Health Services, Dr. Mohammad Amin Wani and Director ISM, Dr. Abdul Kabir besides executive officers of FICCI and AYUSH were also present. In a most impressive jam packed specially installed exhibition hall, the participating departments particularly Information and Handicrafts were lauded by the speakers for their colorful displays. A galaxy of writers, intellectuals, members of commerce, trade and industry also witnessed the culminating function. The awards were given to the Heads of participating departments for successful conduct of the function. A record number of nearly 50, 000 people both from within and outside the state visited the exhibition during last four days even as peak rush of people was seen on the concluding day as well. The exhibition was inaugurated jointly by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and special subject of the exhibition was Ayurveda and aromatic plants. Keeping in view the ideal potential of Kashmir to produce these high quality medicinal and aromatic plants as well as favourable agro-climatic conditions, the Ayurveda and ISM doctors from all over the country visited the exhibition during these days. All the Heads of Departments, who spoke on the occasion unanimously, were of the opinion that international and national expos need to be frequently organized in J&K State, especially in valley so that these help to attract more tourists to the state from all over the world. Director Information said that if only 2% of total population of our country along with other neighbouring countries could visit here, the economy of the state would catapult to highest figures. “We have the potential to achieve this and break all previous records in tourist influx”, he said. Renzu said sectors like tourism, handicrafts, forests along with medicinal and aromatic plants have ample potential to boost our economy both individual as well as that of state. Director Tourism announced conduct of Kashmir Festival very soon. He said the festival will be of the same standard as that of Ladakh festival organized recently. Director Handicrafts said that his department would organized handicrafts museum on October 8 followed by a series of handicraft expos with the objective of providing marketing avenues to the people associated with handicraft trade. Director Health Services said that joint organizing of the exhibition has proved quite successful and set a new trend for future as well. He said wonderful displays of science, art, culture in the exhibition has helped to attract thousands of people to visit the expo. Director ISM in his speech said that the exhibition has largely helped to serve the objective of sensitizing public about the importance of AYUSH system and latest development of medicines in this field. He said the expo has helped to aware people about the importance of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, which is the basic raw material for AYUSH industry. Dr. Kabir said that AROGYA exhibition, first of its kind proved great success. He said the collaboration of other departments has made the exhibition more attractive, helping to serve the objectives of the exhibition in a big way. After the successful conclusion of this festival, thousands of participants, who attended the function, opined that such expos should be frequent feature in the valley.
