We stand behind JK Gujjars: Pilot

The Gujjars from all over the India are on the back and support of J&K Gujjars in their ongoing struggle for inclusion of Gojri language in the eighth scheduled of Indian constitution, said Sachin Pilot Union Minister of State for Communication and Technology while interacting with Dr. Javaid Rahi National Secretary of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, a J&K based organization working for Gujjars in India, at Electronic Nikatan, here.

Sachin Pilot said we are with the cause of J&K Gujjars. They are the roll model for the whole community residing in rest of country, in respect of preservation of real tribal ethos including their language Gojri and distinct Culture. He said that centre will provide all type of support J&K government in preservation and propagation of cultural properties of Gujjars.

Earlier Dr. Javaid Rahi who is also Chief Editor of Gojri Language in Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages presented him a set of 30 latest Gojri publications including Gojri translation of autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi and Masnavi Moulana Rume.

Dr. Rahi apprised the Union Minister that there is genuine struggle going on in Jammu and Kashmir State for inclusion of Gojri language in the list of official languages of India. Our tribal language is fulfilling all the requisite requirement. He said Gojri is one of the major language of northern states of India and it needs due recognition from Union government for its preservation and development, he said.

Dr. Rahi while interacting said that J&K government has already recognized the Gojri as a major language of the State and included in the sixth scheduled of J&K Constitution. Recently State Board of School Education included Gojri as a compulsory subject up to eighth standard but its inclusion in Indian constitution is our long pending demand.

The Minister said he will also take up this matter with J&K Government and Central Government and prepare a ground for the inclusion of Gojri language in list of Official languages. He impressed upon all the organistion and institutions dedicated to the cause for Gujjars to work jointly for making the community socially, culturally and educationally vibrant and power full. Dr. Rahi also invited him to State to have an interaction with the intellectuals of the community.
