Children celebrate annual day at KU

Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Riyaz Punjabi today appealed the University teachers to teach for at least two hours in schools during a week to help restore the interest of students in science and mathematics subjects. Vice Chancellor was speaking at the annual day function organized by the Model High school University of Kashmir in tune with international day for children when tribute is payed to all children in the world and different programmes are initiated for their well being. Vice Chancellors spend some four hours with KU model school children who were attired in beautiful dresses in Ghandi Bhawan Hall of the varsity. VC , the architect of the present model high school of the varsity said that children win our hearts with their angelic and innocent smiles and want us to look after them and if I have done a little to help this school restore it glory it is out of that call. VC said, Kashmir University took the initiative of making the University high school a model school in real sense and also declared it as an experimental laboratory for our B ED and Med students. VC said that his administration will provide all funds necessary for leading the school on the path of progress and our dedication will help us to accomplish the task. VC again lamented over what he termed as the decline of science and mathematics education in schools and he appealed university teachers to play heir role and spend some hours each week in schools with kids to generate their interest in these subjects. Registrar Kashmir University Prof Syed Fayaz, Chairman Model school and Dean education Prof N A Nadeem , Principal Model High School Mrs Hamida Shafi, also spoke on the occasion and unanimously appreciated the role of VC KU in putting the schools back on rails after what they said " it was at the verge of closure in January 2008 owing to financial problems" . Registrar Porf Syed Fayaz informed the audience that the approval given by VC to establish a creative art centre for children at Naseem Bagh will go a long way in helping our children to give vent to their talent and help them excel in the fields of creative arts. Children of the model school presented beautiful items much to the applaud of the audience.
