Prof Hamidi guest at ‘meet the eminent programme’ at KU

Noted critic and poet of the subcontinent and former Vice chancellor Kashmir University Prof Hamidi kashmiri was the guest at ‘Meet the Eminent programme’ conducted by the Allama Iqbal Library of the University of Kashmir at Ibne-Kkhaldoon Auditorium today .

The session presided over by the Vice chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Riyaz Punjabi , was marked by a galaxy of scholars , intellectuals students and faculty of Kashmir University .

The panellists for the event included noted poet and broadcaster Farooq Nazki, noted educationist Prof Nusrat Andrabi , Director Radio Kashmir Rafeeq Raz, and known Holly wood film maker Farooq Masoodi.

Speaking on the topic "History and development of Urdu in Jammu in Kashmir" the former vice chancellor Kashmir University upheld the critics role saying criticism is necessary but cautioned criticism should not be for the sake of mere criticism but for development . Prof Hamidi was appreciative of the role of Kashmir University for the promotion of Urdu but said it has to do a lot more in this direction. Prof Hamidi condemned vehemently the recent remarks of a Jammu based BJP leader about KU saying" these people fail to understand the status of a university".

In his presidential remarks Prof . Riyaz Punjabi Vice- Chancellor Kashmir University described Prof Hamidi Kashmir a legendary genius who gave a direction to literary criticism in subcontinent at a time when it has termed to be a mere business, which in no way is a good sign. VC lamented the way our new generation is getting away from Urdu and he looked forward the role of teachers and scholars to motivate our youngsters towards Urdu.

Earlier in his welcome address Riyaz Rufai Chief Librarian of the Alllama Iqbal Library University of Kashmir highlighted the achievements of the guest. Prof Hamidi Kashmiri he said has rendered valuable services to the university of Kashmir and to the urdu language and literature , said Rufai

Besides the panellists the prominent among the audience who participated in the discussion included noted writer Mrs Taranum Riyaz , Prof Majeed Muzmar ,and Head department of Urdu Prof Nazir A Malik . Prof Majeed Muzmar faculty department of Urdu also presented a life sketch of the guest. .Educational Multi Media Research Centre (EMMRC) recorded the proceedings of the event for archives of Alama Iqbal Library KU.
