Govt improving civic amenities for refugees: Chib


Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that coalition government led by Mr. Omar Abdullah is fully aware of Sikh refugees’ problems and efforts are on to mitigate them in a phased manner. He said all the Deputy Commissioners have been asked to prepare a list of displaced families of 1947, 1965 and 1971 refugees under their respective jurisdictions so that compensation can be disbursed among them at the earliest. Minister for Medical and Technical Education Mr. R. S. Chib, Deputy Chairman LC Mr. Arvinder Singh Micky, PCC Chief Prof. Saif-ud-Soz, senior congress leaders Mr. Dharmpaul Sharma, Mr. Yash Paul Khajuria, Mr. Hari Singh and representatives of All POK Saranathies were present on the occasion. Addressing All PoK Sarnarthi Conference (APSC) at Abhinav Theatre, here today, Mr. Bhalla said that the initiatives have been taken to extend help to the displaced families from PoK. He said government has enhanced the compensation from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 30,000 per kanal. He said that the compensation ceiling has been fixed to a maximum of Rs. 1.50 lakh per 5 kanal and above. The Minister informed that earlier an amount of Rs. 27.50 lakh has been distributed among the 26 displaced families of Rohi Morh in Gaddigarh. He informed that Centre Government has approved Rs. 49 crore as land deficiency compensation for displaced persons of POK. He said that under new plan, infrastructure works will be taken up to improve road connectivity, health, education, drinking water, electricity, and drainage system in the established refugees’ colonies apart from compensation. Responding to a question raised by the representatives of APSC, Mr. Bhalla clarified that Prime Minister’s package of Rs. 1618.40 crore is not only for Kashmiri migrants but it is for all those displaced families, who migrated from Kashmir valley. He said that coalition government was fully aware of all community refugees’ problems and is making all out efforts to redress them a phased manner. He said that recently government has regularized two refugee basties Gaddigarh and Bhour camp as ‘Abadideh’. He said that all the refugee basties of the state would be regularized as ‘Abadideh’ in near future and provided with all basic amenities. He appealed the Sikh refugees to fill up the forms for their verification so that there is exactly worked out. In his address, Mr. Chib said that proposal for reservation of refugees children in Government and Private technical colleges across the country are under consideration. He asked the Sikh community to cooperate with government in solving their problems. He assured sympathetic consideration of their genuine demands including minority status to Sikh community, compensation of acquired land of Sikh Saranathi by Government, inclusion of Punjabi subject as optional subject in colleges, establishment of minority commission in J&K and schools and other hardships. He said coalition government was making concerted efforts to resolve their issues without any delay. Deputy Chairman LC Mr. Micky and PCC Chief Mr. Soz also spoke on the occasion and called for constitution of an Apex Committee to address the issues of Sikh community in the state. They said that Omar-led government was committed to augment civic amenities of all the communities.
