Javaid Rahi honoured by Gujjars of Haryana

The Haryana Gujjar Samaj Kalyan Parishad –a premier organization of Hindu Gujjars of Haryana and Chandigarh today honured Dr. Javaid Rahi noted researcher , writer and Gujjar activist from Jammu and Kashmir for his outstanding contributions in the field of preservation and propagation of Gujjar identity , Culture , Gojri Language and literature . In this connection an impressive function was held here at Gujjar Bhawan Complex Panchkula in which a galaxy of intellectuals of community participated. Speaking on the occasion Er. Satpal Singh Gujjar, President of Gujjar Parishad lauded the contributions of Dr. Javaid Rahi in the field of development and preservation of Gojri language and literature. Gujjar added that as an activist Dr. Rahi has done a commendable work for making Gujjars as a vibrant identity in the State of Jammu and Kashmir .Above all Dr Rahi has actively working for national unity and communal harmony among Hindu and Muslim Gujjars, he said. Satpal Gujjar said our organization is ready to provide scholarships to Gujjar students of J&K who are otherwise un-provided, poor or effected by the militancy to carry forward their studies in different fields. Born in , 1970, in Poonch (J&K), Dr. Javaid Rahi, has been the recipient of a number of national awards, including a National Fellowship from Union Ministry of Tourism and Culture, New Delhi in 2000 for his outstanding contributions in the field of Tribal and Nomadic Research. He has done pioneering work for the preservation and propagation of the Gujjar Culture by contributing a dozen book on their history and culture. Ph.D from University of Jammu , Dr. Rahi was appointed as head of the Gojri wing of the State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in 1994..In September 2009 he was appointed as first Chief Editor of Gojri in the State Academy. Dr.Rahi has edited more than 300 titles and periodicals in Gojri language, published by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and languages. He also headed various research projects including Encyclopedia of Himalayan Gujjars, Folk-Lore Dictionary of Gujjar Tribe, and Hindi-Gojri Dictionary Projects. As National Secretary of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation an NGO working on tribes of India, Dr. Rahi has done remarkable work in field of Tribal and Nomadic Heritage, Sociology and Economics. He has also working as convenor of Gojri Language in the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE), under Ministry of Education, Government of Jammu and Kashmir and has prepared books for introduction of Gojri into the school curriculum up to 12th standard.
