Educational institutions incomplete without sports activities: Prof Punjabi
The
Speaking at the inaugural function of the North Zone Inter-University Football Tournament (for Men), he said, “Sports activities give fervour to educational institutions. I am of the firm belief that no educational institute including university is complete without the sports activities.”
Prof Punjabi said such activities gave a chance to students to demonstrate discipline and stay healthy. “It is a healthy body and sound mind that helps them face the challenges in life,” he said, adding he was personally a strong fan of football.
The Football Tournament is being organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports. Teams from universities including Aligarh Muslim University, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Hisar University, Kumaon University, GND University Amritsar, Kashmir University, NIT Jhalander, PTU Jhalander, Awadh University and Agra University are participating in the event.
Prof Punjabi, who kicked-off the event, said the participation from different areas gave a chance to students to understand each others’ culture and traditions.
The KU registrar, Prof S Fayyaz Ahmad, said education was incomplete without sports. “Our university is committed to promote sports activities in the Valley in a big way,” he said, adding sports activities inculcate sense of discipline and sportsmanship among the students.
In his welcome address, the Head, Directorate of Physical Education, Prof Nissar Ahmad, was the IU Football Tournament was aimed at giving a boost to the Sports activities in the campus.
Others who were present on the occasion included Prof Khurssheed Ahmad Bhat, chairman, Sports Committee, KU; Prof G H Dar, head, Department of Botany besides senior KU officials and academics. Members from Sports fraternity of the Valley were also present.
Dr Mussavir of Linguistics Department conducted the proceedings of the event.
