Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the commitment of the coalition government to provide basic amenities like road connectivity, electricity, drinking water etc. to the people especially those living in far flung, hilly and backward areas of the State.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Central Government under the dynamic leadership of UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is liberally funding the State. Both the leaders are keen to develop the State and make it prosperous, he said, adding that all the three regions of the State will be developed systematically.
Mr Tara Chand said the government is committed to the balanced development of the State and significant measures are under way to benefit the people and come up to their expectations. He said many welfare schemes have already been initiated for the upliftment of the people living below the poverty line. He said the government is aware about the problems confronting the people and will leave not stone unturned to provide justice to every section of the society.
He said the Defence Ministry has given approval for double laning of Akhnoor to Planwala road having 30 Kms length and the Border Roads Organisation / GREF will start the work on it very soon. The work on a bridge over Jourian Taroti Nallaha has been started at an estimated cost of Rs.578.25 during February last and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2011. Besides Border Roads Organisation will also start the construction work of bridge over Manavar Tawi at Baldoh village very soon, he added.
Mr. Tara Chand also disclosed that a bridge Hamirpur Sidhar on the right bank of river Chanab to Hamirpur Kona left bank will be constructed at Pargwal at a project cost of Rs. 45 crore for which necessary approval has been received from the Centre and asked for submission its Detailed Project Report. He said that the bridge after completion will connect Chamb with Khour area.
Mr Tara Chand also sought cooperation of the people in the implementation of various Central and State sponsored developmental and welfare schemes and asked the officers to work with coordination to ensure the schemes are completed in a time bound manner and take all measures to benefit the people at gross root level.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Saroori said that Government is seized of the problems of the people living in border areas, adding big development plans have been formulated for the upliftment of and development of the people living in border areas. He said Government is committed to improve the basic amenities of the people of the State.
The Minister appealed people to extend full cooperation to executing agencies in the completion the development projects started under R&B Sector in their respective area. “To connect all unconnected villages with each other through a road network is high on the agenda of the Government” Mr. Saroori said, adding several road projects have been taken up under PMGSY and NABARD for extension and upgradation of roads in the State. Mr. Saroori said that a sizeable population in State has not seen the bus service in their villages even after 60 years of independence. “We succeeded in taking bus service into Inshan village, which saw the bus after 60 years.
The Minister said that BPL ration tickets, old age pension cases would be got re-verified so that the benefit could reach to the deserving people.
He said the projects started during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad would be taken to their logic conclusion by the collective efforts of the people and the coalition government.
Appreciating the role of Center for restoring normalcy in the State, Mr. Saroori said that peace and prosperity of the state is hidden in the Indo-Pak friendship. He said the people of the State, particularly living in border areas have suffered a lot during past 20 years of unrest in the state and now want to live with peace. “The people of all the three regions have to work jointly to consolidate peace and strengthen brotherhood among the people” Mr. Saroori said, adding peace is out slogan and prosperity our goal.
Mr. Saroori said that people have rejected the communal forces in the country, adding the secular charter of the Congress party is appreciated every where on national and internal level. He said the composite culture of the State is an example for the people of other States.
