Gul, Nasir, Kamal tour Mir Bahri, take stock of Muharram arrangements


SRINAGAR DEC 4: On the instruction of the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, a high level team carried out an extensive tour of Mir Bahri area, in the vicinity of Dal Lake to take stock of the arrangements being made for the coming Muharram. The team, which included Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Mubarak Gul, Minister of State for H&UDD, PHE, Tourism and Revenue and Relief, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Hazratbal, Dr. Mustafa Kamal interacted with the people and enquired about availability of basic amenities in the area.

The team also included officers of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Public Health Engineering (PHE) and the district administration. They included Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Mohammad Akbar Ganai, Secretary, LAWDA, Mir Hussain and Executive Engineers of SMC drainage and Mechanical wings as well as PHE department.

While interacting with the people, Mr. Gul asked the district administration to provide all facilities to the people in view of Muharram, keeping in view the severe winter conditions.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nasir Aslam said the administration will ensure that all facilities are extended to the people on the auspicious occasion of Muharram so that people do not face any hardships. He called upon the concerned to ensure that power and water supplies are regularly on priority basis. “The Government is committed to take administration to the doorsteps of the people and every effort will be made to provide succor to them”, the Minister said.

The Minister also informed the people that the government has embarked on a major rehabilitation programme of Dal dwellers, adding that those displaces would be properly rehabilitated. “On the intervention of Chief Minister, the Central Government has approved a package for rehabilitation of Dal dwellers and preliminary follow up actions have been taken to relocate those who would be displaced”, he added.

MLA Hazratbal, Mr. Kamal, in hi address, urged the administration to take necessary steps for Muharram ahead. He also called upon the authorities to ensure that basic amenities like roads, power and electricity are provided to the people.
